Class Exhibition

Assignment #29: Think about what you would like to present in a class exhibition and blog about it.

Considering the extent I'd like to go for my final project, if there were a class exhibition, I'd love to show the results, even if it is only a few volunteers at this stage. While I like most of the other work I've completed for this class this semester, I feel like my final project is able to delve much deeper in concept and idea, rather than just an exploration of a medium.

At this point, there is not much I can share, but the preparation I posted here: http://angienmnf.blogspot.com/2012/12/final-project-progress.html

  2. Angie, I like your project. I think it is very relevant since it shows how identity is a social construct: how we are 'encapsulated' into different categories, according to the system (Country, State, context...) we life in. I'm looking forward to seeing how it evolves.

  3. Also it reminds me to a performance by Adrian Piper. I don't know if you're familiar with it: Piper, who is a light-skinned 'colored woman', to use her preferred term, frequently found herself made an accomplice to racist slurs and jokes by whites in the art world who assumed she was 'one of us'. In response, she produced "My Calling" a card, which she offered to them. The Card (1986) begin with "Dear friend, I am black. I am sure you did not realize this when you made/laughed at/agreed with that racist remark...'

  4. Angie, I really liked your final project concept and what you had done so far to present in class. I also really enjoyed the discussion that your project led our group too.
